Back To NewsBehind the Hoardings - Let there be light!
View ImagesWalking into the large corridor connecting the four new classrooms with the KS3 block is a very exciting experience! The curved ceiling and high level windows create an immediate impression of space and light. The classrooms themselves are intentionally very similar to the existing KS3 classrooms (built in 2007/8), with lovely deep wooden window frames and minimum distraction spaces. This immediately anchors the new building to the existing school, providing much needed continuity and consistency.
The classrooms themselves are being decorated and the final fix is underway for switches and fittings. Work also continues in the office and toilet areas, and with the underfloor heating now working the whole building really does feel only weeks away from completion.
Externally the wooden panelling is being installed on specific wall and roof areas, and this again echoes the existing school building. The wood slats are treated with an oil product made by Osmo, which protects it from rain, strong sunlight, and at this time of year frost!
There has also been progress on the new sports hall since our last visit, with the blockwork now complete and the insulated roof panelling on-site and ready to be laid.
